Curtain raiser for Celebrity Cricket League CCL, South Superstars vs Mumbai Heroes, Venkatesh vs Salman Khan, Celebrity Cricket League, CCL, T20


The Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium in Vishakapatnam will play host to a unique T20 format match today: the Mumbai Heroes vs the South Superstars,featuring the whos who of the Hindi and south film industries.But this is not the inaugural match in the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) that was to follow the IPL format in terms of team formation and player selection.

The organisers of the CCL were to have auctioned teams, but that didnt happen because of the World Cup and the IPL.But the CCL will be put together.The match today is a curtain-raiser to keep peoples interest in the CCL alive,especially since everythings been moving at a rather slow pace.The CCL was to have kick-started in January,but it now seems to be more likely in June, said a source from a firm thats likely to have a stake in the CCL.

The scene is set to raise the curtain on the most anticipated entertainment event of the year: the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) an idea to combine the two religions in India – Cricket and Cinema. One sensational mixture of entertainment awaits the audience. For the first time in India, CCL will create that platform where the film fraternities from South and Bollywood will battle each other for the coveted top spot a la the cricket way. The explosive multi starrer action entertainer will take off from the first week of June 2011.

The first season of CCL will comprise of four teams – Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada film industries – playing six league matches and one explosive final. While the Bollywood team, Mumbai Heroes will be led by Sunil Shetty with Salman Khan as Icon Player, the Kannada Team will be led by Sudeep, Tamil Team by Surya and Telugu Team by the uber-cool Venkatesh. As curtain raiser for the mega event, Bollywood XI and South Superstars XI will clash in a day and night encounter at ACA VDCA cricket stadium in Vizag on March 5th.

The likes of Salman Khan, Suneil Shetty, Ritesh Deshmukh, Sonu Sood will represent Mumbai Heroes and will battle for honors with South XI comprising of Venkatesh, Surya, Sudeep and actresses like Shriya Sharan, Genelia, Priyamani, Andrita Ray and Raagini will add the glam quotient to the event. The event will be telecast by the Sun Group in the respective regional channels.
